Be careful as it may still contain some oil. Wipe the area around the filter mounting with a clean rag to remove any debris.
4. Install The New Oil Filter
Apply a small amount of clean oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. Screw the new filter onto the mounting, tightening it by hand until it is snug. Do not over-tighten.
5. Add New Oil
Once the new filter is securely in place, put the plastic cap back on the drain tube.
Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new oil into the oil fill tube. Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more if necessary. Be sure not to overfill.
6. Check for leaks
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check around the drain plug and oil filter for any signs of leaks. If everything looks good, turn off the engine and recheck the oil level, topping off if needed.
7. Clean Up
At this point your oil is officially changed. Congratulations! Now, all that’s left to do is to properly dispose of the old oil and filter. These items should not be put with your regular trash to have sanitation collect.
