John Deere 17 P‑Tier vs. 26 P‑Tier Compact Excavators: What’s New—and Which One Fits Your Jobsite

John Deere has redesigned two of its popular compact excavators—the 17 P‑Tier and 26 P‑Tier—to deliver faster hydraulic response, stronger breakout force, and broader attachment compatibility for contractors and landscapers working in tight spaces.

The update includes single or dual auxiliary hydraulic lines, an optional fixed pin mechanical coupler, and (on the 26 P-Tier) a diverter valve that simplifies plumbing for dedicated attachments like augers or compactors.

These machines debuted to the public in October 2025 and are part of Deere’s commitment to expand performance and optional features across the P‑Tier mini excavator lineup.

17 P-Tier Gen B

Net Power: 13.81 kW (18.52 hp)
Max. Digging Depth: 2.39 m (7 ft. 10 in.)
Operating weight: 1,778 lb.

26 P-Tier Gen B

Net Power: 13.81 kW (18.52 hp)
Max. Digging Depth 2.61 m (8 ft. 7 in.)
Operating Weight: 2499 kg (5,508 lb.) canopy / 2629 kg (5,795 lb.) cab

What’s New vs. the Previous Generation

Attachment & Hydraulics
  • Standard Aux: Both models ship with one set of auxiliary lines for core tools.
  • Optional Dual Aux: A dual‑auxiliary option is available from the factory to power multi‑function attachments; the 26 P‑Tier adds a diverter valve for routing oil to dedicated tools (e.g., augers, compactors).
  • New joystick‑mapped Aux 1/Aux 2 and on‑the‑fly flow adjustment on the 26 P‑Tier via the sealed switch module (SSM).
Couplers & Compatibility
  • New fixed‑pin mechanical coupler enables quick changes; wedge‑style adapters preserve compatibility with existing buckets/attachments.
Arms & Reach
  • Long‑arm option adds up to ~8 inches of digging depth (model‑dependent), expanding reach while maintaining lift/breakout.
Cab & Comfort
  • A new cab option is available on the 26P-Tier. It comes with standard heat, A/C, Bluetooth® radio, LED lighting, wider entry and improved sightlines; mechanical suspension seat with adjustable armrests.
Service & Uptime
  • 500‑hour maintenance tracker in the monitor, plus a sealed switch module for durability.
  • JDLink™ telematics is factory‑installed to feed machine health and location to the John Deere Operations Center™.
  • JDLink telematics also unlock Connected Support and Expert Alerts from TriGreen Equipment, your local John Deere dealer, to proactively address potential issues before they happen
  • A hinged door, foldable seat, and easy-to-access battery location make routine service quick and easy.
  • Extended service intervals keep you working longer
