Why Seed Meter Testing Matters

Your planter’s yield potential is determined the moment the seed goes into the ground. Even small issues inside your meter—worn discs, poor seals, misadjusted eliminators—can lead to skips, doubles, and lost profit.

A skip as small as 1% can result in up to a 1.3% bushel-per-acre yield loss, making meter accuracy one of the most cost-effective improvements you can make before planting. Here’s an example from our Precision Ag Team:

What We Do

Our consultants bring a mobile meter testing stand to your farm, where we test each meter under real-world conditions. For non‑electric drive meters, we remove each unit, mount it on the stand, and run a complete simulation matching your target speed and population.

We evaluate critical performance metrics, including:

• Skips – the number one cause of yield loss
• Doubles – wasted seed and uneven emergence
• Overall accuracy and meter efficiency

Each meter is run through approximately 2,000 seeds to give you a detailed performance report and recommendations.

Before meters ever hit the stand, we assess the internal components that most often impact performance:

Door & Vacuum Seal

We inspect the meter door and vacuum seal for:

• Cracks
• Hardening
• Warping

A bad seal means vacuum loss—and poor seed pickup.
