When you own a John Deere compact utility tractor, you have no shortage of implements and attachments to choose from.
It means you can use one piece of equipment to complete a variety of tasks. But the actual process of attaching an implement to your tractor can be a chore, which is why we frequently get asked about the difference between a three-point hitch and the iMatchTM Quick Hitch.
Let’s take a look at what makes an iMatch a standout addition for your John Deere tractor.
What is the Difference Between the 3-Point Hitch and the iMatchTM Quick Hitch?
Three-point hitches have been connecting tractors to implements for decades. The three-point was designed
as a replacement for the single-point hitch. The single-point had left tractors vulnerable to flipping over
backward as the large rear wheels continued to turn when forward motion was restricted. By
adding two points below the single point to form an “A” shape, the three-point hitch provided
more stability and height control. When forward motion is restricted, the top point is forced
forward. This transfers the forward pressure to the tractor above its center of gravity. As a result,
the rear wheels are more likely to spin than to cause the tractor to flip over.
The 3-point hitch was a big innovation. The iMatch builds on that innovation.
John Deere designed the iMatch Quick Hitch to make attaching 3-point implements to the tractor even easier.
John Deere engineered the iMatch to meet the ASAE Category 1 Standard S278.6 for quick-attach hitches.
This guarantees it will fit any Category 1 implement. Every iMatch Quick Hitch comes equipped with one set of bushings. These bushings are necessary for all implements to enlarge the pins to fit the iMatch hooks.
Which Hitch is More Efficient?
To connect a tractor to an implement using a standard three-point hitch, you have to back up the
tractor and align each pin individually. Operators may often enlist the help of another person.
Otherwise they likely end up having to get on and off the tractor multiple times to ensure each of
the pins is lined up. It can be a very time-consuming and inefficient process.
The iMatch is designed to be simpler and easier to use. All you have to do to connect to your implement is back
up your tractor, raise the hitch until it makes contact with all three pins, and then lift it slightly.
You only have to get off your tractor once to lower each latch, rather then getting on and off multiple times.
Once you’ve lowered each latch, you’re hooked up and ready to go to work.
