All about 50-100 Horsepower Tractors

50 to 100 horsepower tractors are some of our favorite machines. They’re so versatile – you can accomplish the vast majority of property maintenance projects with a 65 hp tractor. But functionality aside: when you drive through the winding backroads of Marshall, Morgan, Jackson and DeKalb counties, it seems like every piece of land has a well-loved 50-60 horse tractor parked in the barn. On winter afternoons, it’s hard to miss those folks putting out the hay that they worked all summer to put away. And our hearts burn with pride seeing people care for the land they love.

We hope you find this list of blogs, videos, and other content on 50-100 hp tractors useful!

Examples of 50-100 HP Tractors

“50 to 100” is a wide range in horsepower. The differences in available models goes beyond engine power. As you increase in horsepower, tractors tend to increase in weight, size and available options. Check out the different models below for specific details!

Tractor 101: Choosing A Tractor

Chances are that if you’re shopping for a tractor, you’ve got some chores in mind that you want to get done with it. Think about the weight of loads you plan to move, the size of the acreage you plan to Bush Hog, how often you plan to use your tractor, and what special features you might want to make things easier on you.

This blog is a great place to start!

New vs. Used 50-100 HP Tractors

New and used tractors can have some big differences in price – and performance. If a machine has been well taken care of, buying it used may not be a bad idea. But sometimes spending a little more on the front end with a new machine can save you a lot of pain (and dollars) down the line.

We offer both new and pre-owned tractors at TriGreen, and we want our customers to find the ideal machine for their property and their pocketbooks. So here are a couple of resources to help you in deciding, whether you’re buying new or used.

Tractor Regen & DEF

Higher horsepower machines are likely to require Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), and must periodically go through a regeneration (regen) process which stores and burns off chemicals that could potentially harm the environment and, well, people too. And while regen and DEF are standard across all of John Deere’s 100+ Horsepower machines, most machines between 21 and 75 HP do not. This saves time and money, and many people opt for slightly lower engine power just to avoid those things.

If the “regen” and “DEF” are unfamiliar to you, consider checking out our blog on Tractor Regeneration!

Specialty Tractors

Some farms need a tractor that is lower to the ground to fit inside chicken houses, or has a narrower chassis to fit between vineyard rows. John Deere manufactures a variety of specialty tractors that can fit in those tighter spaces without sacrificing performance. Check out our Specialty Tractors page for info on these!
